Anyone out there using an inflatable in the ocean? I have a NRS Pike and plan on hitting PC next week. Any help out there for me a first timer?

Cool looking boat. I am not aware of anyone hitting the Ocean in one of those. I think that The Nothing had an NRS inflatable in his fleet for a while but I can't recall him ever taking it out in the salt. What type of advice are you looking for? Safety, fishing spot, forecast reading, surf launch, etc?

My general advice would be to pick a day that has a swell of 3 foot or less and wind of around 5 MPH. Anything close to 10 MPH you're going to get blown all over the place. Also make sure you have good immersion wear, wetsuit, drysuit, waders plus drytop, etc. There is a very good chance of getting wet :)

This is a great spot to start reading,

Twice we have gone out in bays with my wife's inflatable Sea Eagle . All I can say is you better hope the wind is at your back when you want to go back to shore.

The nice thing about the coast this time of year is that the wind is usually blowing toward shore in the afternoon.  Check out iwindsurf.com

I may hit PC Wednesday or Thursday.  Not sure yet. It is either there or Depoe Bay.

If things clear up. I will be hitting Depoe bay on Wednesday.  Might be a wise choice to try an easier spot for your first time out.

I've been seeing guys fly fishing from the inflatables on the salt. It made a lot of sense. The fisherman could strip and change positions to cast very quickly. They were often kneeling too. Definitely not a bad idea from what I can see.

There are a couple of new inflatable kayaks launched lately that show some promise.  One is the Sea Eagle FastTrack 385.  The other is a whole new line coming out of Aquaglide.  Both use modern high pressure drop stitch floors (similar to the technology used in modern inflatable SUPs), in conjunction with a keeled design as well as skegs.  This gives you a solid floor with better tracking than older inflatable designs.

The Pike also has a drop stitched floor with a selection of skegs for better tracking, although less of a keeled bottom design.
