I know a lot of us have that "lucky rod". For me it's an ugly beat-down Okuma Celilo I bought 7 years ago.

However, I'm starting to think that I have an unlucky rod in my quiver. The sad thing is that it's my favorite rod. I built it myself with a mega-ultra-lightning blank, laced it with a million unobtanium guides, split the grip, and paired it with the coolest JDM gold-flake low-pro reel the bike maker had at the time. It's good looking, balanced well and is a dream to cast. It gets first chance every time I go out. The problem is that it has never landed a single fish. This year I have given it more chances than ever. Alas, the closest has been a snagged coho that lasted 1.7 seconds. My friend called it progress, but DFW would have called it illegal.

This is the "best salmon year in existence" yet my freezer is still waiting to see one in 2013. I'm not superstitious, but I am starting to wonder.

Anyone else trying to blame something other than themselves for not catching this year?

Really? Not your own inability to hold onto a rod with a salmon attached? Or getting too excited and stabbing the net at a fish that isn't tired :P

I purchased a MH SST rod this spring to replace my XH weight Buzz Ramsey IM8 because I wanted to try something lighter.  After spending way to many days trying for both springers and fall salmon with only a native nook and a native coho to show for it, the tip broke off the SST, so I switched back to the Buzz Ramsey.  Since then I have caught salmon on 2 of out of 3 trips including my 2 best Chinook.  Damn you SST rod, thanks for ruining my springer season.

Langson, I am going to have to agree with Noah, but at least you seem to be learning from your mistakes.  What I really want to know is,  Noah, what do you blame for your lack of fishing success this year?

I could never get away with the above statement.

The gloves are coming off!  I blame my inability to catch a salmon on my new reel. ndogg ruined it the first day by proclaiming  "That is one ugly reel!" the JuJu soured and has never returned.

Of course my fishing ability is above reproach and by no way can be called into question. Ha! What can I blame the previous year on? Pretty sure I can blame Langston somehow.

Excellent question. I blame my lack of effort, I've been too busy to fish any days this fall. However, my results have been the same as Langston's  >:D

Noah, you can just start a stocking program in your basement!  Just take out the sump pump and throw some smolts in there...

I would much rather be up a creek without a paddle than down one.

:spittake: Maybe not ha ha funny, but I still laughed out loud. So it must be more of a "Doh!" funny.

Kinda like me insisting that my wife leave room in the freezer for the salmon I'm bringing home this weekend... again...
