:banjo:  Dig Bluegrass and Kayak fishing...............
Great Website!!

We'll be visiting the Portland area in November.  Plan on hauling yaks, never leave home without them.  If time allows hope to do some paddling in your Beautiful waterfilled region.  We'll be in West Linn area,  we see there are some rivers close the Tualatin River and Willamette River .
Any tips on kayak fishing these rivers appreciated.
Thanks!!

Catch and release sturgeon fishing in the Willamette is a good option, it is fun to hook into the occasional 7 foot long fish, and it is fairly easy if you have an anchoring system. There is an anchoring system with 200 feet of rope out there already by George Rogers Park.  I left it on the bottom there last Saturday  :'(. There are bass in the Tualatin and Willamette, but I don't know how hungry they are in November.

I second sturgeon.  There may also be some salmon and steelhead on the coast.
Craig, I really hope those 200 ft of rope are not connected to my anchor.

I believe the Tualatin will be closed to fishing. It's been lively this year, though; too bad you couldn't get there sooner.

+1 on sturgeon.

Easy to catch, large and odd looking fish, and somewhat rare in relation to the rest of the US. Would make for great photos and conversations.

Craig, I really hope those 200 ft of rope are not connected to my anchor.

My guess is that only the last foot would be connected to the anchor, the rest will be hovering around near the bottom of the river.
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Allen: Yes. Again.

I found a weakness in Rawkfish's anchor rig. Or should I say in my modification of it.  The weakness is when you anchor in forty feet with a 20 lb hunk of lead.  Then, you let two others tie up to you causing the anchor to drag.  You realize it as you start to drift towards an anchored boat, so you let the anchor line go with the quick release...just as the anchor falls off the edge of the 40 foot shelf into the 140 foot hole downstream of it. I didn't think it would be a problem until I realized there was only about 90 feet of line deployed.  Who'd of thunk a little crab trap float wouldn't float a twenty pound drift anchor  ::).  Oh, that's right it was only supposed to float the line spool which it proudly has done for three years.  It was a contingency I had not planned for in the design process.  :BangHead:

Nate:  Your anchor system is safe in my car.

I'll 2nd that. I've been fishing on the Willamette 4 of the last 6 days, and it's surprising how chilly it is even with the warm weather we've been having.
