I don't remember the last time I didn't cover 2-3 miles offshore.

I believe what Noah means is if you have to go 2-3 miles each way just to get to where you are fishing.  It is three to four miles each way when we go Halibut fishing off Cape Kiwanda.  Then, throw in a strong ocean current and it can suck fast in the Outback.  Especially when everyone else has a Revo and you are trying to keep up.  Trust me , I know.

I have both an Outback and an Adventure.  I love the Outback for bass, trout, fishing the Ocean (for everything but salmon and Halibut) and sturgeon. When I am trolling for salmon or going a long way to the fishing grounds, I prefer the Adventure.  If I were to only own one Hobie, I would get a Revo.  That is just my opinion.

just curious how a Revo11 can be "too short" -- does that mean it doesn't track straight or gets pushed around by wind easier than a longer boat?  I have a Revo11 -- not sure i know what I'm missing with a longer boat.  The 11' was all I could handle loading by myself.  Deck space doesn't seem to be an issue for me.  Thanks for the insight.

If it works for you are not missing anything with the Revo11.  Solo loading is VERY important to me too. Virtually all my fishing is solo, and loading and unloading the Revo13 from my truck's lumber rack is a formal process. So formal I decline help because help gets in the way.

Deck space is the issue with me. During the salmon/crab season, I carry a couple of rods, a downrigger, a fishbag, sonar, and a couple of Danielson folding crab pots, plus the two floats and the line winder.

I can't speak to tracking or wind issues.  Theoretically the speed of a hull is related to it's width/length aspect. The smaller the number the faster the hull.  This is why sea kayaks are long and narrow, and why the Adventure is the fastest Hobie Mirage.

Outbacks are more stable, but you give up speed and agility.  PA12 is not really a kayak, and even slower than the Outback.  Adventure is much faster, but they're longer, narrower, and a less stable. Revo11 is too short with too little deck space.

I am still scratching my head and chuckling about why an Outback 'is a kayak' and PA12 is 'not really a kayak'?...both are SOT with enclosed hull and both have sculpers to drain...different hull shapes and different seats for sure.. ;D

I have an outback and have tried almost all other hobie's. I like the outback for those days when you shouldn't be out on the water, but still have to go. I go open ocean, or columbia all the time, 3 miles minimum. If it's to much to tow, get in better shape. However if you're shaped like a zipper and weigh 125lbs, then a sport is the equivelant of an out back for you

Yeah, I agree with Roger (Dirk...whatever)...I've pedaled them both and just don't see an appreciable difference in speed between the Outback and Revo...certainly not enough to sacrifice the space and stability my Outbacks offer. I've done 12+ mile days from Makah Bay to Tatoosh and back and never once wished I'd have gotten there 5 minutes earlier. If it were a race I wouldn't have stopped to drop on every promising piece of structure that appeared on my fish finder.

Your size/stature plays a big part too...I'm 6'2" and weigh 210... I'm just more comfortable in the Outback. Of course, everyone has their own opinion...that's just mine.

I'd suggest you buy them all and then sell the ones you don't like...it's worked well for me and my marriage.

I'm a little on the thicker side, 5' 10" and 225, so though I like the speed of the Revo, I feel more comfortable in the Outback.

I need more space than even the outback provides.  I don't know how I would fish without the rails.  I guess I could be better organized. I have the disease that doesn't allow me to leave the dock without every possible outcome covered.  I am desperately trying to get my gear reduced that I take out.

As it is, I have a permanent downrigger mount installed and on a good day, I use every inch of deckspace on my outback.
