The man who started with surfboards and then gave 'yakers pedals is gone.

RIP Hobie. Surfers and kayakers alike have much to be thankful for to this man.

It sounds like he went out peacefully and surrounded by family. We should all be so lucky.

When I was 4 years old my dad stood me up on his surfboard for the first time.  An old Hobie.  It got smashed in half during a hurricane a few years later when a woodpile was blown over on it, so my dad re-shaped the tail and moved the fin, making a sweet little board for my brother and I.  I never met the guy, but his dream has been a big part of the lives of my father, brother, and myself.
