My new favorite tackle box

I have one of those Plano boxes and I thought it would be waterproof.  I had it in my canoe on the Clackamas and got dumped.  The box had a leash on it so I did not lose it, but it filled with water pretty quick.

I bought one of the analogous Plano orange boxes (it looks exactly the same except color) at lunch. $10 at Sportsman's Warehouse.

The lid seats more level but I really don't have much hope it will perform much better. I will report back tonight when I test it.

Mine is not waterproof, but my plan was to never flip over to test it.   I have never had water get in during normal use unless it was raining.  Never set your camera on to the lid behind you and open it.  DAMHIK.

Sorry to keep spamming everyone with this thread, but feel necessary to update:

I tested the orange Plano box of the same dimensions. It is not watertight at all either, although slightly better than the Harbor Freight version.

This is all quite disappointing but anyway, I guess you get what you pay for. Get a Pelican if you want this type of thing.

As was mentioned above, the food storage buckets and screw lids that they sell at Winco are good for keeping everything dry. The only thing that would concern me is that there is no connection of the lid to the bucket so if it goes overboard - Bloop. Bloop. Bloop. I may have to try the sealant under the rubber seal that comes with the box because I like the idea of the box behind the seat. It doesn't take up too much space!
