Yesterday I got a 30" lingcod.  I actually got it spearfishing but wanted to post an interesting fact about this one in particular.  In its stomach it had a rather large lure....

Here's a picture of a rubber frog lure I found in the stomach of a pike I whacked while spearfishing.  Apparently somebody didn't get the memo about using wire leaders while fishing for pike.

Nice catch!   When I catch a fish (especially a steelhead) with a lure in its mouth or belly I clean the lure up and save it for luck.  Happens fairly often on coastal rivers where guys target steelhead with fly gear.  I've only had it happen a couple times on the ocean.

Good idea, I'll hold onto it.  I suppose I could sharpen the hooks and even use it someday.  It's in decent shape.
