Shook the skunk at the lake. So im confident now. Im heading to mukilteo in a few minutes.  Paddle across from there. I like this spot because its so close to shore is over 100 feet, lots of bait gets washed over tgis area, and there is.always lots of tide rips. Ive limited here multiple times in a boat ,mooching herring.   Why not try in a kayak . worst case always have flounder hahaha. If anybody is.bored come out and see us.  ;D

how'd it go for ya? i'm in seattle, played in my yak around shilsole, salmon bay, but haven't really targeted blackmouth yet. mukilteo's not too far of a drive for me, either.

right on! very cool about the grey whale sighting.

let me know if you'd like to get out together sometime. I know the blackmouth are about done for, but flounder near-shore at mukilteo could be fun. feel free to PM or email me at davidwbrinn at gmail dot com

Alright.  that sounds good, mukilteo is pretty good fishing for flounder. Ive done shilshole but the tide was so ststrong, i did get some fish though.  Ive also tried Smithcove for lings. didnt get anything.

huh...must've been a weird day. i've done shilsole in most different points of incoming/outgoing tides, never experienced more than about 1kt.

haven't yet dropped a line at shilsole for flounder, though. you do better in one area over another? or just wherever there's sand and 30-50 feet of water?

I Always do really well in the muddy bottom with eel grass present, 30 to 70 feet. If the ti de is ripping, its hard to drop the smaller lead jigs down to the bottom and keep them in the kill zone. I am a fan of lead jigs in the 1.5 to 3oz. That is the size i do best with.  I add a squid skirt to the hook,or a spinner blade, just to add a little extra something. I like bait but those stupid flounder can swallow some serious size hooks fast. Pretty aggressive . In the hot summer days I do a little better in deeper water as the sun progresses through the day.. pebble bottoms IDont catch as much or around rocks. Usually ill get an occasional rock sole in those areas
