So my son and I enter the ice fishing derby on Finger lake put on by the 477th fighter squadron.  Sorry it's not kayaking but I wanted to share a video of a pretty happy kid fishing and how technology definitely ups your success rate.

The iPad is hooked up via wireless to a Vexilar FishPhone underwater camera.  My poor iPad...I need to find a case for it.  The camera is located down another hole about 6ft to his left.  We didn't catch anything derby worthy and part of the reason was my 9 year old just didn't have the patience to put a larger bait on that would keep these pesky, but tasty, stocked landlocked chinooks off the line.  I barely got to fish as he was pulling them in one after the other.  He did win a new ice fishing rod and reel for entering the 36th fish.  We also won a two hour rafting trip near Denali National Park.  I should be happy and grateful, but who the heck floats a river in the middle of the summer here in Alaska WITHOUT a fishing pole?!?!?!  People do that?!?!?!? Really?!?!?!  I find that hard to believe.  Sounds like torture to me. lol.

So here's a one minute unedited clip.  You know the kid is focused as I got distracted by the fish swimming by the camera, but another fish hits the white blob you see in  the middle of the screen (shrimp) and he manages to hook it.  They were hitting fairly lightly and without the camera, I am sure he would have missed most of them.  So as an investment for the little ones, this thing has paid off in spades.  As far as recording underwater footage it sorta sucks as it only records in 240P.  The images you see of me shooting the iPad with my IPhone are much better.

Nice. His smile is worth your lost fishing time. (easy of me to say...)
