Something else that has been a TREMENDOUS help for landing rate is I change over all of my wedding rings to small treble hooks.
Erik
Hmmmmm....wonder if that would work on a hootchie? What size treble are you using?
are you using a single or stinger hook setup?  I run stingers (octopus style hooks) and only bait the top hook and my hook sizes are usually 6's or 8's and only rarely do I miss a fish granted I still have them come off but that's a fault I blame on getting to excited while reeling em in... also I use ultra light rods, my main trolling rod is a daiwa spinmatic 7'6" UL with either a 251 or 100 size shimano bantam reel and 10# mono (for its shock absorbing ability), then a leader made out of 6lb or 8lb maxima ultra green.  personally I wouldn't run trebles cause they can be a pain (sometimes literally), when you could use treble hooks for salmon in puget sound I remember one year the little shaker kings were thick and you couldn't keep them off your line and more than one time they wound get the whole hook in their mouth and pin their mouth shut... it made for a frustrating time trying to get the hook out while trying not to hurt them...
