Can't stand the wait on my new yak, so I was wiring up the new Elite 4HDI last night.  Power cable comes with a data cable as well...I will never need this.  Can I just cut that cable and cap with one wire nut, or do I need to actually cap each strand?

I wouldn't cut it...just cap the end, roll it up and zip tie it up out of the way inside your hull...who know's you may have a use for it later down the road or desire to upgrade and sell this unit for a couple bucks.

Well, cutting it means the difference between 2 1" diameter holes in a $2000 yak vs. 1 hole.  New power cable is $30.  So if I can just cap it without dealing with the separate wires, then I'll take that deal.

Thanks for the reply.

I run the FF cables out of the front hatch and button the hatch down over them, puts a little kink int the cable but doesn't harm them and no holes necessary.  This works just fine for the Hobie style front hatch...not sure what type of kayak you've got.

It's a soon to be Native Slayer Propel.  I do a lot of fly fishing, so I need things clean.  Mounting the transducer through the bow scupper (80% positive on that one) and popping power/transducer out the top RHS.  Something like this...but the opposite side, and attached closer to the seat on the groove track.

Notice he's got two 1" holes drilled.  I'm just brainstorming on how to cut it down to one.

I used the thru hole wiring kit from Kayakshed. Worked out great! Nice, clean and easy to install.
