Summer Steelhead

While I'm at it with all the questions.. how about summer steelhead?  I think I remember seeing a post about steelhead at Drano in the later part of summer.  I think Drano doesn't open up again until mid-August.

Any other areas to consider?  Techniques to try?

I really wouldn't mind catching a steelhead from the kayak (okay I also really need the AOTY pts.)

Drano can be good in the late summer because the main stem Columbia can run too warm (creates a thermal block) and the fish seek relief in the cooler tributaries. This is most likely in low water, hot summers. It may not be as likely, this year, with high flows and cool weather.

I've read that folks in your area do best for steelhead in relatively shallow water; 12-15'. Spin n Glows with sandshrimp will catch both steelhead and kings.

Otherwise, I'll just repeat my advice in your summer chinook post. Maybe you can convince your wife of the wisdom of exploring the NW.
