I'm cheap and relatively crafty, but mostly just cheap.

My system:
Approx 5"x5" cutting board base with slot cut in it in it that tightly fits a 1"x12" piece of metal (taken from the retractable keyboard track from an old desk), to which i've tightly bolted in the transducer on the bottom. Using a velcro strap I secure this (removable) cutting board base to an identically-sized cutting board base that's permanently fastened to my slide-track system. Easy on, easy off, and the velcro's strong enough to prevent any wiggling or movement on the water.

Transducer is directly in the water, and the whole set-up cost less than $3.

Post a picture, DWB123!  A picture is worth a thousand words.

Could "scupper mounted transducer" be added to the poll as an option?  That would include the scupper pocket on Tridents, and the covered scupper pocket on recent model Hobies.  I have one of each of those.

Through the hull in the scupper works great.

Nearly everyone I know uses foam puck. The subject has nearly been beaten to death in the past , otherwise you'd get more feedback. Some guys use a transducer arm but I'd say 9/10 of the guys I fish with use a puck. It's the quickest and generally returns the best results for the least install time.ive tried the puck vs directly in the water and can't notice a difference. It's also one less thing to break on a surf landing.
