Just fished lake Billy Chinook. Had a great time catching Kokanee. A friends and both limited out on 5 trout rather easily.

We were in the Deschutes arm.   We were trolling pink hooches behind a sling blade at 50 to 55 ft.  While we tried to head to the main lake some of the best fishing was within sight of the launch.  Also don't forget the bring herring or other larger baits because the bull trout were pretty active as well.

Maybe farther than you want to drive but I just got back from Prineville Res. I had a 25 bass day on Saturday and my wife and I each caught in the low teens for 4 hours of fishing on Sunday. Lots of smaller fish, but bigger ones were around, and if you fish light tackle it's fun either way. Also I got a 16.5" largemouth, and another NWKA guy got a 18-20" largemouth (not sure on specifics, up to him to tell the story if he wants to). Didn't try too hard but couldn't find any trout.

Nope that's in my range too.I just forgot to mention it and ochoco res. Too.I used to fish Prineville res all the time living in Powell butte.most of the trout are in the lower half of the res. From the state park to the dam along the slides and cliffs. Troll a flatfish 3ft behind a 1/4-3/4 oz egg sinker.picks up smallies too.prineville is a good aoty lake.congrats on the big largemouth and thanks for the tips.

Thanks back at you for the tips! My instinct went to flatfish, so at least I was doing that right! Do you use a flasher/dodger/etc. in your setup? I tried a lake troll and a small slingblade, but it sounds like you're talking just the flatfish, right? And I was in the lower half; I launched at the dam ramp both days (I guess it's called "Powder House Cove" now?).

Just a heads up, you can only aoty score bass 15" and smaller from prineville.

I'd hate to see someone spend the time to catch one of the lunkers in there, thinking they had huge aoty points, only to be disappointed.  I think this happenend to someone a few years back.

O that's Cuz of the 15in max length.I forgot.

No just straight up sinker, leader, flatfish.sling blades with a small white hoochie and a pink blade above it works great tho.I have only fished the north shore. Ya I think that's what its called.if you go towards the state park from prineville on the north shore, there is a road to the right about a mile before the park and it leads to a nice little cove with a good gravel ramp.lots of water east and west for trout.

Well dangit. Since I don't ever plan on keeping bass I didn't notice the prineville-specific 15 inch maximum. I REALLY HATE that you can't CnR fish for AOTY. It's the only rule in the whole thing I disagree with (well that and they should add some more species). There is no logic to it; it actually discourages catch and release fishing, which is ridiculous.

I guess I'll have to withdraw my largemouth from last weekend. It's all good, one more reason not to enter next year.
