Anyone have the deeper hobie bucket? I am wondering if it could fit my digital slr so I could possibly create a safe area to store it so that I can take it out on some of the bigger trips. I have a few different things I am working on including a dry case but It would be nice to have it in the center hatch where I could quickly pull it out.

Yes, I have one but I don't use it much...are you looking for some dimensions or something?

Yeah I am just kinda looking to see what the dimensions are really like. The info posted is not always how large or deep it really is.

It depends on your DSLR and lens. I can get my Nikon D5100 and D40X in the bucket with the smallish 18-55mm lens on it. A more expensive/larger DSLR would not fit.  But the fit is a tight fit with NO dry bag protection.  When I bring any of my DSLRs out, I always put them in a higher quality vinyl coated dry bag and leash the bag to the yak.  I store the whole thing in the tank well or milk crate behind me.  When I fold and seal the dry bag, I make sure there is lots 'o air in there, so it floats.  Although, I discovered Nikon lenses due float, DAMHIK   :o.

Agree, depends on the body and lens size, so depending on your setup you'll be pushing it.

Also you probably already know this but you inevitably get some water in the bucket due to the design of the hatch. If there is any water on the hatch cover it is difficult/impossible not to get a few drops in the bucket. It's not terrible, but it's a consideration.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will keep brainstorming some options. My main thing I am trying to fix is to have it safe but also easily available. I have noticed that the biggest risk recently has been catching a fish with my camera out. I got a sweet vest rig and canon bodies with the lens on are water resistant and can even handle being out in a down pour, but catching a fish and having it shit all over my camera equipment really sucks.

I may just have to build something that will work for what I want which is quick and easy access. both to get it out and put it away.
