I did a 4 day 3 night float down the John Day from 30 mile to Cottonwood. Went with 10 others for a bachelor party. Weather was perfect, fishing and catching was excellent, no mosquitos, Outback stayed upright even after a few beers, and we saw a lot of wildlife. Great part of the state.

Looks awesome. I keep hoping to make a John Day trip happen before they start restricting it more, and every year it gets away from me. I still may make it later this year for a short trip.

What kind of fish/day were you hitting?

I was targeting small mouth bass. The trip was June 29th thru the 2nd. Fishing was good from 5am thru 9pm. It was just a little more difficult to fish when the wind picked up. I did see steelhead, catfish, carp, and maybe a spawned out salmon. The water was murky though so it was difficult to be sure.

Sorry, I meant quantity (fish/day)... I've heard of guys doing triple digits in a single day up there. I'd be happy with a dozen! :)

Dbaum, awesome post!  That's a great float.

When the Predator crew hit it last year we had multiple 300 fish days.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain
