The weather couldn't have been better! Hit the water about 4:30 AM and fished last couple of hours of incoming tide. Caught two halibut in 50 to 60 ft while dragging sardines.

After a year of planning and gathering equipment, this was a good first foray to Cook Inlet. Thanks to all of the AK regulars for your advice and patience with my dumb questions.

Hit the Swanson River last Saturday - 8 million undersized trout - and plan to float some part of the Lower Kenai on Monday. Any suggestions?

Thanks - Royal

It's a rare day Cook Inlet is that calm. Very nice.

Hit the Swanson River again in late Aug /early Sept. It will be full of silvers. Up where Swanson River Road connects has some nice holes within 500 yds of the ramp (?). I've fished the lower end from Cpt.Cook State Park to the mouth. Lots of fish but a long walk back up to the park from the mouth.

Mark - coincidently ran into a guy at the launch on Swanson with same advice. Said silvers stacked up in deep hole about half a mile upstream from launch, which I think we found. I'll for sure have a report in late Aug!

Kard - weather supposed to be awesome. I'm sure Whiskey Gulch will be busy this weekend - quite a few folks there today - but we will probably go out again Friday evening.

There is another spot about 50 yards downstream where a small creek comes in on your right that  loads up with silvers.
A small chunk of yarn, a hook , and a little split shot will get you hooked up almost every cast. Set up in the little cove just above the creek.

How crowded does it get on Swanson River area when the silvers are in? We've been planning to do that loop for a while with our kids--to catch those undersized trout all day. But...why not add some salmon to the mix!

Mark - we found that creek - you can hear it from the launch - seems like a great place to fish!

Cool........... that little creek is a little overgrown with brush, but easy to find.

As far as how crowded it gets...... only at the ramp for shore bound folk. In a yak the only traffic will be an occasional moose hunter drifting down to tide water thinking they will cross paths with a moose.

Two small one July 4th. Worked hard for these. Law of avg or just a cruel hoax I thought I was in to something??  I guess fishing is good when you complain about limit. Maybe 12-15 lbs each.
