After a less than stellar Springer season in Portland I finally got to the coast for some coho fishing this morning.  Launched from the beach in Manzanita (which I don't recommend) out of necessity and time constraints.  Fished out to about 100 fow and turned back, and hooked up at 83.  A nice little 5 or 6 lb hatchery ho'

Had 25 ft of line out with a 4 oz keel sinker, fish flash and single barbless hook spinner.  Made for an enjoyable fight with the acrobatics coho are known for.  Used a longer rod than normal (8'6") and also tied on a 25 ft mono top shot for some stretch.

Back on the beach by about 9:30, but wanted to fish longer....

(Did not use the fish grips FYI)

Nice. How far out to reach the salmon?

Probably a mile at most.  From all reports there are a lot of coho right now.
