Here's a 28 inch lake trout I caught on August 16 on Lindbergh Lake.  It rained on and off during the day, but the fish seemed enthusiastic.

Nicely done!  Do you troll exclusively for them, or do you also jig for them?

I mostly downrigger troll for lake trout, running my weight and lure as close to the bottom as I can, and I catch most of my lake trout while trolling.  The advantage of trolling is that you can cover a lot of ground, and when I pass over some lake trout, with the help of the GPS features of my fish finder I can troll back through that spot several times from different directions in a cloverleaf pattern, until I pin down the location of the fish.  I also carry a rod rigged for jigging, so once I pin down the location of a group of lake trout, I can switch to jigging.  However, if there are only a couple of lake trout, and your kayak is getting shoved around by the wind, you could be jigging thirty feet away from the fish.  So when hunting down small groups of lake trout, I have more success with trolling than with jigging.
