Hello just moved to Portland from beautiful Breckenridge CO. Anyone got any help on what spin gear to use for summer steelhead?! Would love to target some monsters.. ;D

Welcome! I went to school in Gunni before moving out here. For summer steelhead from the kayak I do one of two things.

1.) I use my kayak to get from point A to B and bank fish the tributaries. All sorts of gear works for summer steelhead but I am partial to spinners/spoons and bobber & jig.  I've tried side drifting from the yak but don't like doing it. Pulling plugs works in some places.

2.) My other way to target them is to anchor and plunk spin-n-glos on the Columbia or lower tributaries.

Good luck!

Summer steelhead are very wary. Large shadows tend to sour the bite.

Thanks for the replies guys.. As far as gear I'm a fly fisherman at heart so I'll apologize beforehand for the basic questions..any suggestions on a springer/ summer winter steelhead rod and reel setup that won't break the bank? ( no pun intended )  :D
