So at the salmon derby I made a small mistake that could have easily turned into a horrible mistake. I got caught in that ripping current at point defiance right around the clay banks. I just made a pass a little too close and as I was paying attention to getting my rig moved to make the paddle back I was sucked into this washing machine area of current and white caps. I knew where this current was and it was not my first time out there messing around. It took me 45 min to get my boat from 100ft of water back to within a few feet of shore where I could make ground. In 45 min of hard peddling I moved about 30yds to shore and about 0ft forward. I was exhausted and the weird patterns of the waves and boat wakes were tossing me around pretty good. If I would have got knocked off I would have probably got picked up pretty fast by one of the hundreds of boats around fishing the tournament but my boat might have been pretty far away before I even had a chance to get back in. It wasn't as dramatic as I make it out to be in the video but that is how you make good entertainment.  ;)

The current around that corner is insane! I was trolling out there just the other day as well and looked over at a couple of Madronas and I wasn't moving at all. How did you do in the derby? It sounded like a lot of fish were caught out there. Looked like TONS of boats out there. I am glad that you made it back safely and in the yak. I am so surprised that someone renting one of those kayaks hasn't gone in the drink near that corner and been swept out...I have seen a few people rent down there that have no business being in the salt...Due to experience/clothes. Good video man.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain

No but I like it! Hopefully it doesn't bring any sharks to my kayak.
