Anyone with an older mirage drive I would recommend you look into upgrading your drive to V2 sprockets and masts.
Last week I had my V1 sprocket fail on me. Paddling is not as fun as pedaling =) cheap and easy fix. About $60 and an hour of time at most.

Maybe time for another Fungunnin Mirage drive upgrade?

Hobie has already addressed this problem with the V2 drive. It uses brass liners and threaded masts. It is a worth while $55 upgrade.
