Launched at Cook Park about Noon and fished till about 3.  There be Basses in them there waters! Started a bit slow until I drifted to a big laydown that formed a strainer. My bobber disappeared as soon as it bumped into the first part of the tree and got hung. Had to retie, but thats what you get fishing in trees with 4 lbs test. I dropped it in between the trees and it disappears again. I pulled back and eventually this 4lbs chunk comes out. I actually had to do the opposite of the Roland Martin trick and had to stretch my arm away from the camera to fit it all in the frame. Needless to say, I was very excited  ;D

5 or 6 more came in quick succession, 3 of which made it in the boat, but nothing that big and averaged about a pound. Good fish, but nothing to crow about.

I moved down to the next laydown and BAM lighting strikes again, but I farmed it. Got hung, retied, tried again. BAM, big fish on! Carefully worked her to the boat, and its another 4 lbs chunk. In fact, its the same 4 lbs chunk! (note the cut at the bass of the tail and there was a matching bruise on the other side)

I don't think she was sitting on a nest, unless a nest is 30 yards long(?) (distance between laydowns) Just big, dumb bass? I dunno?  :dontknow:
Anyway, I'm sorry Spot, but I did not have the heart to toss her up on the bank and I was not going to eat her fresh from a superfund site. She swam away happily after my assault. Besides, I ran into bsteves and family coming in as I was going out and I hope Owen got to catch her too. ;)

On another note, this was my second time out in the Malibu Extreme and that thing is really big! I think that it will be the one going back to Jacksonville as its stable enough to stand on and throw a cast net. It carries its way fairly well, but takes a bit of "ummmf" to get it going. This is most definitely a big guys boat! Even I don't sit this one down on its lines. I did get barely enough water splashed through the scupper under the seat to wet my pants though, but nothing a plug won't fix. BTW pool noodle makes excellent scupper plugs (and they are usually removed when your crashing through the surf or getting swamped by a wake). ;D

Wali,

Thanks for the report and thanks for the worms as you left.  Owen and I had a nice time on the river, but all we could manage was a small peamouth chub.. Owen's first fish.  He was a bit more antsy this time and spent more time reeling in the bobber than actually fishing.  I'm looking forward to hitting that river again by myself.

Seeing this post up near the top again reminds me I have a picture to add.  My son Owen's first fish.  A tiny peamouth chub.  He reeled this poor minnow right up to the rod tip.  If Oregon didn't have a no-baitfish law, I would have loved to send it back down on a larger hook.

Normally I could have easily anchored and it would have been useful, but with my son on my lap, that might have been difficult.  Instead, I would just lean up against a downed tree branch to stop my drift.

Actually, I'm a marine ecologist who spends a lot of time on the computer doing mostly data analysis, but I also do some database management and web application development.  Today is a slow day for me so I've wasted a lot of it here.

Oh, and a little trick I have.. I've placed notifications on new topics so I get an e-mail everytime a new topic is posted.   As a moderator, I like to chime in regularly and keep people in line... :director: ;D

Solid LMB's FFTW! Those are some beauty spawners. I looks like it's a touch warmer down there and you're in full spawn since the tails are bloody. Looks like good fun.

Nice double dipping on the LMB, Wali. I've seen it done on stupid summer steelies, but not bass.

I kind of kick myself for not taking that Extreme. It's a flat, stable barge but I wasn't sure how it would do in the chop that I seem to regularly endure. I'm glad you're putting it to good use.

That was a very good buy Pisco (thanks again! ;D )

PSR: I did not anchor,  I just drifted and stopped when I floated into a log. You kinda develop a knack for paddling one handed to hold your position.

So if I jump into the AOTY melee do I get to count the same fish twice when they are suicidal?  ;)

FFTW, you can add the same fish twice if you want to AOTY, in the end the program will only count your largest fish from each species.  So.. only one copy of the fish would be used.
