Launched at Shipwreck with a couple hours left on the ebb tide.Weather not too bad, a little wet,but happy for the rain. Get outside the pilings, find the channel(30ft),drop my cut plug herring and flasher down....OK,theres bottom...before I can engage the reel,bang..its fishon! Right away I know its a nice fish...heavy,staying down, peeling line off a couple times. Thought this was gonna be a nook, got it close, saw it was smooth...get it in the boat. All right..a nice coho!(31"  12lbs)

Took awhile to recover...tag it stow it,etc. Noticed I couldnt see the bridge anymore..sure enough, got pretty nasty. Was still pretty close to car, pedaled over to take a break and snap a few pics to send to those who stayed home to wobbler fish. Was considering calling it a day, but I just got here...head back out. Met another kayaker out there(kayakangler)..he wasnt phased at all by the turn in conditions...so hang in there. Sure enough, got much nicer after the outgoing.

Rest of the day was all natives..first 2 smaller coho, quite a few takedowns and maulings,so ran out of bait. Well, wanted to try a spinner anyway. Had 1 blown out herring...put a chunk on the spinner...theres a nook! Too many fins. One last chunk of bait on the spinner...just get the pole in the holder...violent takedown! This guy took awhile....stayed down..great fight..could see it was a nook...cmon,cmon....crap...another nate. Dangit, these were legal fish yesterday.
Oh well what a fun day...wish I could make it back this weekend. If ya go...dont forget to try a spinner...red/white GDF hooked those 2 with probably less than a minute in the water.

Hey,Mark..
this was yesterday....alot of fun. There was a lull, but around 12:30 things got interesting. Thanks to Craig for the Dicks sure spin tip...totally confident of my cut plug spin, but in such warm water and current, they blow out pretty fast. These help alot. Thanks to you for talking about this area...scouted it out last year, never got to fish it till last week.
Wow,I marked alot more fish last week, but only 1 hit...alot less this week, but more biters.
Thanks again, sir...

  Hey dberd.

I hope you can see the squibble in this pic. Is this where you put in a "Shipwreck" ? Saw a Subaru parked there as I came by. And some one was dragging a blue kayak out. That you. ?

Sounds like you had an awesome day Dberd.  I hope I'm not the only bonehead wondering or not knowing this, but where is "Shipwreck"? If you don't mind sharing, of course.

Thanks.

  Cosmo,
The shipwreck is on the Washington side of the Colombia River about 2 miles east of the Astoria/Megler bridge. That's at Humpy or Hungry Hollow depending on which map you look at. There is also an old rusty barge right there too. You can see both from the highway.
