Thank you Yaksurf and DBird.

A couple weeks ago I went to Pacific City. Yaksurf agreed to let me shadow him. It was my first time crossing the surf. It was not as daunting as I expected, the swells up to 6-7ft were. I really appreciated that a stranger would let me tag along for safety's sake. Needless to say, I couldn't even catch a cold that day.........

Today I found a little spot to launch by a dilapidated old boat. As I was passing into the currents of the Lower Columbia, I saw another kayaker pull into the same bit of gravel I had parked on. I trolled a circuit and then doubled back and met Mr. DBird. We fished for a few hours today and let the high tide take us upriver. After a long slog back, I re-baited and began another troll near the launch. As DBird moved ahead I zagged through some froggy water, enjoying the lack of current. The sun was getting to me and my waders still smell like last year's cured salmon roe and tuna belly. I looked over and saw my rod tip tap, then dance for a second before it dove into the water. I brought the line tight as I slid it out of the rod holder. I felt strong head shakes and the fish took a solid run, peeling line off a tight drag. I turned the fish and started playing it. More head-shakes and then it came unbuttoned.

The day couldn't have been better. Thanks fellas for letting me tag along, it was good fishing with you and you helped me get better at it. Next week during hold over tides, I will be there with my filthy waders and a fresh bag of anchovies.

Viking Out.

Nice fishin with ya,Nat....too bad the big one got away. I also missed my only chance only moments before yours, gone before I could pick up the rod.
Yep,a learning experience for me also...wow,we were way upriver and south of the launch before I realized it. Some good exercise for sure. I'm guessing it won't be long before you get some turbo fins, lol.
Would like to do it again soon....hopefully some of those fish on the screen will be biting next time...

It was nice fishing with you out at Pacific City.  At least we got to see Shermonator catch a Salmon.  I was a little bit surprised you stuck with me because it was a little big out there.  I did manage a couple of rock fish and a nice cabezon after you went in.

P.S.  Here's a pic of you out there

Yay! Lets get out there again. Thanks for the pic Yaksurf! Next time I will be more prepared.

Dbird- I will be hitting it from that same launch mon, wed and thur. Hoping it will be better. The tides are supposed to be good holdover tides. My PB guide buddy was excited about them. Hit me up if you are headed out.
