Any body use a farmer john wetsuit, drytop combo? What are your thoughts and experience on this topic.

A wetsuit is tight and constricting, it's clammy when you get wet, it makes you sweat like a pig when it's hot, it leaves your feet exposed to the cold, and wetsuits don't have relief zippers, so if you have to pee, you have to pee into the wet suit.  A dry suit fits loosely and comfortably, you stay completely dry inside a dry suit, a drysuit lets you stay comfortable in a wide range of temperatures by adjusting the number of layers of clothing you wear under it, and dry suits have male and female relief zippers so you can take a whizz while wearing the dry suit.  Once you try a dry suit, you'll never want to use a wet suit again.  Forget about the farmer john/drytop idea.  Get a full drysuit, or as a second choice, a dry pant/dry top combination.

It's a cheap way to start, and I tried it for a while. but - bodily functions aside - I changed because I paddle, found that paddling is drippy work, and when a wetsuit gets wet, it stops being warm.  You could always throw a pair of rain pants on top to keep the neoprene dry, but then you're at the same cost as a pair of breathable waders.

If a drysuit isn't in the budget, at least start with breathable waders.  They're warmer, dryer, available with relief zippers, and you'll have dry feet.
The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

That is what I have been using and I like it ok. I did purchase a dry suit so I can fish in the ocean. I would not rely on the farmer john combo for any long term life saving function. I also have an old pair of rain pants to cover my legs which takes care of the issue of warmth if you do get splashed. I also have neoprene booties with wool socks and my feet always end up wet by the end of the day. Keep in mind I have only been fishing in lakes and bays. As for the issue of peeing in the kayak, I just stop and get out every few hours because I am feeling my age and I need to get up and stretch my legs as well so I don't consider it a problem.

I use a farmer john wetsuit and prefer it on warm days, sometimes with a splash top if it's windy.  Very comfortable for paddling.  As for relief, it has a double zipper and can be opened bottom to top so no problem.  Easy to cool off by splashing water onto it.  For cooler days I prefer a dry pants/dry top combo.

I tried the neoprene and dry top the top made me sweet like hell, went to a wet suit didn't sweat and when I get warm I just splash water ,also wear wet suit boots. Pete I sweat like a pig and found the wet suit don't make me sweat that bad as for cold ... I sweat like hell so cold works better for me. As for the original post find a rental for a wet suit at a surf shop and give it a try, if ya like it but one. I over hydrate the day before I go in the ocean and sip water during a half day outing and can wait till I'm ashore to relive my self (carma) now my bladder will start aging way too fast.
