Been asking questions about kayaks, but never introduced myself.  I'm a Cabbagehead.

I was raised up around Bend, but was seduced into a career at The University of Arizona until we were finally in a position to escape the deserts and come back home to Oregon.  We've been down here near Port Orford for a few years, now.

A few months back, The Boss decided we should try kayaking and kayak fishing.  What The Boss says is writ in stone or I sleep with the puppies, so here we are, one of us new to kayaking and both of us new to kayak fishing.

The odd thing about all of this kayaking brouhaha is that The Boss doesn't particularly like being on the water - or in the water for that matter.  She can swim but doesn't, and she hated being out in my stinkpot ski boat.  Kayaking with The Boss is one of Life's Great Gifts, I guess, but I'm happy I lived long enough to see it.

We haven't carried a rod in the kayaks yet.  We - and by "we" I mean The Boss - are still  practicing in different kinds of water and weather conditions.  The Boss calls it "scouting" but the expression on her face tells you she's still coming to grips with sitting that close to water deeper than that found in a bathtub.

Why don't I carry a rod and reel while we practice... uh, scout?  Because I might have a fish on at the precise moment that The Boss mysteriously levitates out of her kayak and into the water, and deciding between her and the fish could delay a water rescue by, oh, six or seven pico-seconds...  I have a job to do and that job doesn't include fishing.  Yet.

Thanks to all who pitched in and offered up suggestions and thoughts when we started to gear-up.  I'd like to especially thank C_Run for talking to me so often about kayaks and kayak fishing.  The guy's persuasive.  Thanks, Chris!

I look forward to reading your fish tales while I, quite patiently I might add, wait to stop "scouting around" and start fishing from our kayaks.

Welcome to the group, scout! I'm a little north of you in Coos Bay. I'm always happy to show people around our fishing grounds.

Thank you, Chris.  I hope to take you up on your kind offer (if we ever get to the fishing part of this Great Adventure).
