Had to work Saturday.  Made it down to Homer Sunday.  I was surprised to see 5 or 6 boats working the area in front of the hotel and the green can.  Started at noon, fished till 5pm.  I could only muster up one keeper king and a tiny one at that.  I think 6 lbs on the boca grips.

Did see a few boats land some nice looking fish so they are there.  It sounds like it has even slow down a little bit for the charter boys heading further out.

Drive back was hell!

Well its a long way to drive for a tiny king, but these feeder kings are the most highly prized of the sportfish we catch in terms of food quality and who can complain if I got out!?!?!

I don't have any video of the keeper.  It came right up to the boat.  But here's a pic.  Maybe I'll have something intersting captured on the tape.

I had a 4 day weekend and thought I'd try Homer but I got a my back MRI read and was depressed by the news so I sulked on Friday. Saturday  I got over it, put a back brace and I drove up to Big Lake and it was just about white capping so I drove to Finger Lake. It was gusting but I put the kayak in the water anyway. I peddled the length of the lake and then hid out behind an island and caught a bunch of small rainbows and salmony looking fish up to 15 inches. I just released them. I get shot up with steroids on Wednesday so I may try a Homer run at the end of the month. Kayaking doesn't bother my back and legs but riding in my truck kills me.

Hope ya feel better AKRod!

I have to admit, this king fishery is starting to frustrate me a little bit.  Putting in long hours on both powerboats and kayak and not quite getting the results I want.  JUST enough to keep me going...lol.

Well here's the video for posterity's sake.  rendered during lunch.  The text is all screwed up but it isn't worth wasting more bandwith to fix.  a bunch of small shakers.  They sure hit hard.  Makes the heart jump...before hopes are dashed almost as quickly.  haha.

Looks good enough to eat to me! I like how that fish nearly jumped in your lap at the end. Thanks for sharing.

I used red label this week since you get 16 herring vs 12. Herring helps keep little kings and pollock off some. But at ten bucks a pack, I'm only ever taking one pack.

I did pretty well with the silver horde coho killer. I think it could be a good spoon. Like the size and action.
