Is anyone going to fish Homer on Monday/Tuesday this week?

I haven't been on here in weeks--I'm going to drive down Monday morning and fish kings as long as I can on Monday and then fish Tuesday morning.

I am fishing Tuesday and Wednesday. I am Leaving the Valley Monday afternoon and will be on the water on Tuesday after a good night sleep and breakfast.

I'm pretty dawned wishy washy.  I was locked in last night.  But I  hate that drive and have changed my mind 17-odd times today already.  I'm definitely going next weekend with a buddy.  So tomorrow is kind of still up in the air.

This is the worst time of year bar none to be driving.  Only because it can seem fine then BOOM black ice.  Just be careful.

That's definitely one of the things I like about growing up in Kenai.  I have done that drive so many times that the drive seems like I get in the car and just somehow end up there.  Auto pilot for 200 miles.

Tides aren't the best this week in terms of timing.  But that's just an optimal vs non optimal deal.  It was good yesterday from high tide and as it was dropping.  But there were consistent albeit much slower action all day as I watched the powerboats.  Next Saturday is ideal as a big high tide is high at sunrise.  I bet it is HOT as soon as you can see for the first few hours.  I fly in from Houston Friday late so Sunday probably for me if I go.

Good luck and keep us updated whoever goes!!!!

Oh...and don't be afraid to fish shallow.  I saw boats in under 20 feet of water hitting fish.  I concentrated between 25 and 50 ft.  But wherever you find bait is where you will find the fish.

There is just enough rain/water on the roads today, that it just might get real $#!++y tonight.  Be careful driving on the ice
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

I'm starting the trek to Homer at 1300 to brave the ice and the typhoon to try for a king or two. My wife is there on business so it maybe just be watching movies but if the water looks halfway safe I am going to try it. I hope to be on the water Tuesday morning, God willing.

Go get'em. There are definitely a few around. Just need two schools to go by.  You'll miss high tide but if you can get out first thing, you should catch some of the out going tide. Good luck!!!!

I tried to fish today but the weather beat me. The wind had the area around the Spit whipped up most of the day. I drove back up to Whiskey Gulch and the wind was minimal and there were smooth 6-8 foot swells but the beach surf was rougher then I want to risk. I drove back to Homer and went the hardware store to get some local fishing gossip and was told to try some surf casting near the condos so I headed over there and set up my surf pole with a sand lance jig and threw my truck keys into the drivers seat and I shut the door. The key fob had hit just right apparently and had locked the doors. $40 buckS later I decided to call it a day as the sun was setting. I'll give it another shot in the morning.

I hit the water at 1000 and the water was comparatively flat. The wind came up to about 15 mph as I came up to the buoy. I caught 1 small pollock and figured it was a start. The sun was trying to burn through the clouds and it was not raining and the water was not too rough for about 30 minutes and then the wind came up and I had white caps all around. I made a run to the beach and before I got back the kayak was slapping down so hard a geyser was shooting out of my front scupper at least a foot. I had the spray shooting over my head, I was having fun seeing how much the boat would take, I was like thoe navy ships in the North Atlantic; The wind hit over 25 miles per hour with assorted gusts that took my breath away. I had to work the rudder like crazy to keep making progress in the correct tack. Anyway it was like an A ride at Disneyland. I got to the beach and got the boat on the wheels but it was blowing so hard I could not pull up the hill so I let it sit and  I sat in my truck until there was a lull and got it up the steep low tide beach and loaded into my truck. I got to fish about a half an hour. It was 1230 and I decided that I had enough of the Spit and headed home. I made the obligatory stop at WG and was almost tempted to try it, it was calm and the tide was rising but I thought it would be nice to drive through the pass before it got cold and dark. The road was dry and I made it back to Wasilla in 5.25 hours. I sure wish I had a GoPro I had a good show to record.

Holy cow glad you made it! "A" for effort. Still in Houston but hopefully weather calms down by Sunday.  I'm a little intrigued by the clear ice on the lakes. Might be fun to get some video....but the Kings....the Kings are still out there....a small King is a HUGE trout.....arghhhhhh......

I digress. Thanks for the report. We gotta fish!!!!

I didn't go down, but I'm heading down tonight (Friday 14) with my bro-in-law.

We are going to fish Saturday morning until the weather shuts us down...either by nastiness or coldness. Then drinking. Then heading home Sunday morning.

Kard--if you get in on Sat night (I'm sure...you'll wake up at 3 am to drive down on Sunday morning...), text me. We'll be at Lands End.

Lol. Land at midnight from TX. Yup. I was going to take the kids ice fishing but that might be a little risky. So right now the plan is to be on the water at first light Sunday. High tide is 9am. Perfect. In fact I'm hoping I get lucky, hit a few and be off the water early.
