Ok...I know this thread already exists, but I have been searching the forum for hours.

I want to install a locking hatch in the space in the back of the tank well of my Trident that is clearly intended for that purpose.  Mainly I just want it for accessory access.  Has anyone done this? Seems straight forward.  Cut, smooth, lexel, hatch, screw, seal....thoughts?

I have installed a couple of hatches and as long as the surface is flat,  it is pretty much as easy as you described.   I also mainly wanted them to access areas normally well out of reach.  I installed the screw in hatch with cat bag so I could also use it to store small items also.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

What do you think is the best way to cut the hole?  I have a dremel.  Would a 4" hole saw be easier?

I've installed several hatches and the Dremel worked great each time.

A Dremel will definitely do it.  I picked up a Dremel circle cutter a while ago and it works pretty well on plywood and would probably breeze through plastic.  If you go with the circle cutter make sure you tighten and recheck the adjustment knob as you cut.  I have had it loosen up on me before.

If you have some dividers with sharp pointy tips you can trace the circle a few dozen passes and make a nice groove. The dremel will want to take the path of least resistance and follow your trace.
