I picked this up off of Craigslist last year thinking it might be useful to me. I've used it a few times but it's not as ideal for kayaks as the plug-in carts, which is what I settled on. It might be useful for your situation, though, or for a bigger/heavier boat.

I want to stress that this thing is heavy duty. It weighs quite a bit and I believe it could hold quite a bit.

It is spring-loaded so that it can collapse, and then the chain you can see decides how wide open it will go. So it is adjustable to some degree.

The red that you see is primer, not rust. It has some rust on the wheels and on the frame, but it is not terrible.
