We like volunteers.  Some of us like fresh ideas as well.  I think it should be total weight of 3 fish.  Your largest cabbie, lingcod, and BRF.  If you can't catch all three, you most likely won't be in the top ten.  Imagine the drama unfolding in someone's mind as they are staring at their freshly caught 23 inch cabezon trying to decide if he/she should keep it knowing it is the only one they can keep for the day.  I like it...

I kind of like this idea.  However, if you go there I think outlawing live-wells should be part of the rules (or at least any that are large enough to hold a >18" fish - that way people can still live bait with greenling if they want).  Make you decide to keep or release right then and there, not hold onto it and only release it if you get an upgrade.

Live-wells? People were just stringing them up and then releasing them later when they caught bigger ones. And yes, I'm judging (that is unethical based on Oregon state fishing regulations).

Very disappointing. I had no idea this was going on.

There should be something in the rules about immediately killing any fish you put on a clip or stringer.  I think high grading sends the wrong message in a contest where many eyes are on us and we want to show good stewardship of the resource.  Barotrauma and floaters need to be avoided.

Just to be clear I don't have a problem with imediately releasing a small fish in hope of catching a larger one.

It's illegal, plain and simple.  The rules do state that all Oregon DFW rules must be followed.

Who was doing it?  I kind of like the power of public ridicule.

Me too.  Don't like the idea of that kind of "upgrade".  Doesn't seem right at all.  I really don't need to win anything like that.
