How's it going fellows?

It's great to find a place where people who fish out of a kayak can gather to tell a fish tale or two.

A buddy of mine took me out on the ocean one day and after the first fish I really enjoyed the experience, I was totally hooked after I got my butt kicked three times that day by something that didn't want to come to the kayak.  It seems the steelhead gear with 15lb mono just wasn't enough for Mr. Ling Cod.  I have since stepped up the gear a little just in case I get lucky enough to find a few more lings but whatever hit took me straight down where the line eating rocks live.  I fish a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 13T and love fishing the salt.

I live in SW Portland and look forward to the chance to meet and fish with a lot of you on the forum.  I've got a few things to learn about kayak fishing but after taking a look around I think I found a good home.

See you on the water,

Ken Haymond

Hey look, another Portland member. Welcome!

Don't know why but we're growing down here like crazy.  I'll add you to the Portland Crew list.

As for fishing the ocean.. we have an Oregon coast rockfish tournament coming up in Pacific City on Sept 20th.  Still working out the format (it's our first year), but it should be fun.  Hope you can make it.

Thanks for the welcome.  September 20th sounds like a plan to me, I've never fished Pacific City before so it should be interesting.

I see the forecast for Friday and Saturday look pretty good.  Is anybody considering a early launch on Saturday?

I was just looking to do a little fishing but if the Oregon crew needs to mutiny, I'll get the torches ready........

Gatorbait, welcome! I'm new too and seem to have found a great group of people here.  Cant wait to fish with some of them.  I defiantly want to practice a bit more before that though so I don't embarrass myself by falling of the yak!!!  :-[

Falling out seems to be part of the experience...as long as you get back in it's ok.

As funny as that sounds, this is more important than any upgrades, fishing gear or secret fishing hole!

The very 1st skill you need to have as a kayak fisher person is the ability to get back in your kayak on the water.  Make time and find a location to practice this!
