I think its easier to practice being safe if its comfortable to do so.  The pfd I wear is so comfortable that I barely know its there and with some strategically placed fishing tools attached I can't go without wearing it while fishing from my yak.  The same goes for the inflatable vests that I wear while bank fishing.

In order to get my wife out on a yak more often and have her comfortable while doing it, which PFD's should I be looking for her to try?  The only female specific PFD that we have found in stock locally is the Stohlquist Betsea but it is not a high-back as suitable for the seats on my SOT's.

I can't find the model of this PFD, but it's a Stohlquist, and damn near infinitely adjustable. My wife is very well endowed, and it was the only one we found to fit her correctly. Good luck!

My wife loves her Astral jacket, as did most of the female kayak guides I've worked with.

The Astral seems to work well for The Boss, too.  I'm still looking for a PFD that comfortably fits someone amply endowed around their navel area.  Like me...

The fish bite twice a day - just before we get here and right after we leave.

Thanks for the replies.  I've had her try on a few and she liked the built in support cups that the Stohlquist Betsea offered (although I think it also had to do with the pink accents) so we stopped looking at Unisex altogether but I think i'll have her try a few more before we completely rule them out and look at only female specific.  I'll also have to see if anyone sells Astral in town because someone else mentioned them also.

My wife uses the Stohlquist Flo (which looks basically the same as the Betsea) and she likes it really well overall. It does bug her sometimes on the Hobie seat back, but overall it's not too bad. I think it will be more comfortable on the 2015 high-back seats once we move into those.

My wife loves her Kokatat PFD for those exact same reasons you have mentioned. She has had this one about 5 years now. It is a female specific and has all the "right" adjustments.

It's a MsFit Tour, and has lots of strategically placed pockets and places for stuff. Alder Creek had them to try before buy.

Thanks for all the replies.  After some searching we were able to find a high back women specific pfd locally.  She happily ended up with a Stohlquist Cruiser.  Her only complaint was that it didn't have hand warmer pockets like the Betsea.

My wife wears the Betsea, too. She's also on the larger side. She doesn't mind it not being a high back PFD.

I wear a thin back Astral and love it. It has a full back, but only about an inch deep. It is really comfortable.
