I understand that the Nehalem watershed gets a small summer/early fall run of chinook, that should begin trickling into the bay right about now.  Anyone have any experience with this fishery?  I am contemplating giving it a shot around Wheeler, or just upstream below the confluence of the main Nehalem and the North Fork.  I know winds get really nasty on the lower bay, so I'm a little leery of trying my luck there.

Anyone have any suggestions?  Or open to an exploratory trip?  If the wind wasn't bad, I'm thinking of dropping some crab pots in the lower bay as well.

slowly troll cutplug herring on the bottom from the ramp in wheeler downriver  about 3/4 of a mile or so.  you will see the boats working the area.  Make sure to keep it just off the bottom, downriver troll works best.
