Hey, last year i decided to pick up kayak fishing and bought a Hobie kona for me and my girlfriend to take out. I have really enjoyed kayaking and want to take it to the next level. I plan on buying a mirage drive kayak soon to expand what I can do and where i can go on the water. I fish for salmon, trout, and steelhead right now and definitely want to start expanding the species i target. I haven't rock fished yet but do plan on doing that. I really enjoy being close to the water and how quiet kayak is with no motor. The money saved on gas is nice too. I plan on fishing all over Oregon. I don't know to many people that kayak fish so if anyone is interested in letting me tag along and teaching me a few things that would be cool.

A little about me: I'm 25 and from Salem but moved to Eugene for work. other hobbies i have are working out, quading, video games, snowboarding, golfing, bowling, etc. I don't smoke or drink. Very friendly. Anything you want to know feel free to ask.

Look forward to meeting new people!

Hey Jason, It was nice to meet you and your girlfriend at the boat show last weekend. I'm glad you found this place. There are a bunch of guys in your area that would let you tag along. Welcome to the group!

I live in Garibaldi and the Tillamook bay is my front yard, good place to start rock fishing and get use to the salt before going to PC
(Pacific City) hit me up or keep an eye out for post of guys hitting the bay. If I'm available I will go out with ya.

Welcome! There are a bunch of us that fish Sunset & Depoe Bays. Of the two, Sunset is probably the best place to start on the salt. Keep your eye peeled for hook-ups on this site.

Welcome! Keep your eyes peeled here. We'll surely be posting something as soon as the weather breaks. Im definitely ready to hit the salt again as soon as I can! Are you set up with immersion gear for the salt? We can help with getting and keeping you safe too..

I don't have much yet.  The kona I used during the summer was on hot days only.  I've been looking at some drysuits Like the nrs extreme relief that's clearanced but not sure if there's better ones.  I did but the nrs Chinook life vest last year so I have that.

That NRS drysuit will certainly fit the purpose if you can swing it! There are a lot of recommendations that you will find on drysuits and other immersion gear topics by using the search bar. You can get away with many different options without breaking the bank just to get salty for the first time. But if you are like most of us... that's all it takes to get addicted.

My personal recommendation is to first rent a suit from kayakacademy.com. (I'm not saying that for any personal gain either cuz I'm not sponsored by anyone!   ::))

1. You will find out the right "fit" for you.
2. Your rental fees can be applied toward the purchase.
3. Top notch service
4. They are local (Hood River)
5. Good buys on used and closeout Kokatat suits in the same price range of that NRS. There's absolutely nothing wrong with NRS, but by my experience, Kokatat stands head and shoulders above in service and supporting their products.

Btw.. There's nothing wrong with taking that Kona out in the salt until you get a mirage drive.... Keep an eye on the swell forcast. We will be planning something soon, I can smell it!

Actually... Monday, the conditions are shaping up good. 2-3ft swells every 10 seconds, 60 degrees and very low wind! Ill take it! Based on what I see right now I believe I'm going to take Monday off. Its Presidents day anyway. I hear dead presidents in my head telling me I must go fishing Monday out of Sunset...

Do you have any waders and/or a drytop? What size are ya?
