Does anybody have any words of wisdom about how to catch lake whitefish?  Fishery biologists say that lake whitefish are by far the most common fish in Flathead Lake in Montana.  And old timers describe hauling in dozens of lake whitefish on Flathead Lake.  But in recent years, it seems that few people have been successful at catching lake whitefish in Flathead Lake.  So in past years I haven't been trying to catch them.  But one of my projects for this year is to figure out how to catch lake whitefish.  Any suggestions?

I use to catch them fly fishing in Idaho. It was summer time and I  would throw dry flies at them.

Maggots, whitefish flies, crappie jigs, or small jigging minnows (like the ones I used in the video) work well.

Find out where they concentrate to spawn and target those areas.
