Been thinking of building another wood yak only this time a SOT and installing a Hobie drive system  but have my doughts they would do as I would like,

All my fishing is in Idaho bass lakes and mostly in heavy milfoil, Lillie pads and dollar pads. And I don't think the fins would go thru the salad very well.

I can see the fins working well in more open water but not to well in the salad where I like to go. What say you Hobie guys??...warf

I once found a website where a guy built a wood kayak and installed a Mirage drive, so it has been done.

Mirage drive Hobies aren't skinny / garden water boats. If you are going to regularly get into vegetation or water less than 2' deep, stick to a paddle. You'll just end up bending or breaking expensive pieces of your drive if you hit the bottom hard or try to power though weeds.

Yea, that's my way of thinking too. I just can't see the
drive working well for the way I like to fish.

Building a well for the drive in a wood SOT would not be very hard for me to do as I have a bunch of boat building behind me.

If electric trolling motors won't go well in the salad I don't see the Mirage drive doing any better. So it's back to gliding over the mess using a Werner paddle....warf
