.... Wait a 4 wt fly rod? That seems absurd to land a halibut of size on.

There is a fine line between being a pioneer and being an absurd fool....I'm the definitely the latter but I am always trying.

I don't think it is too crazy.  And that's the point I would be trying to prove.  My avet sx had no issue raising a 105 pound halibut.  I think that is 9lbs at strike and 12 or 14 pounds at full drag.

My current 4wt has 12 lbs mono on it.  A single action fly reel means I have one to one cranking power.  A kayak helps absorb a lot of the crazy runs and I think I can coax it up.  It's going to be my troll rod for a lot of things when the freezer starts to max out.   I want to make a 4wt or my ultraliight spinning rod part of the saltwater set up.  I saw some really nice sea run dollies crusing the shore lines last year.

After watching my videos over and over again, I have decided I need to cut back a little bit on the idea that a fish must die if it even looks at my lure or bait.  I am going to try and enjoy the "action" a little more.

I do have a 10wt set up with 30ft of T-20 sinking head.  May try that to appease the purists that tell me I have to cast before I am fly fishing.  lol.

I may have to steal that line!

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.  --Mark Twain
