When the seasons change, you need to change your gear.  Since last fall I’ve been hunting, ice fishing, backcountry skiing, and snowmobiling, but last weekend temperatures in the 50s persuaded me to go kayak fishing and whitewater kayaking.  I had to dig up gear scattered around my house which I haven’t used for six months, and I had to pull various items out of the gear I’ve been using for winter sports.  I didn’t remember to bring everything, but managed to avoid forgetting anything essential.

It was still winter in the Mission Mountains, which rise 5000 feet above the Flathead Valley.

On Saturday I went lake trout fishing on Big Arm on Flathead Lake.  Didn’t catch nothing.  The fish weren’t in the places where they hang out a bit later in the spring.

On Sunday I went whitewater kayaking in the Alberton Gorge on the Clark Fork River.
