Okay...my hip hop reference/play on words subject line is the full extent of my knowledge of shrimping in AK.

I'm going to go out with a friend who does a lot of it from his boat; but aside from one of Rudy's videos, I have no experience with shrimping.

What I've heard: put the pots down for 4-20 hours, Go Deep, Use heavy rope, be ready for a heavy lift to retrieve the pots.

I know Rudy doesn't use the heavy line, using a heavy test mono. Any other advice? I'd like to drop in Whittier in a couple weeks. I know the Shrimp Pot guy from Palmer was going to design a kayak friendly pot, but I've not seen anything from him on his site. I hope to catch up with him at the Sportsmans show this weekend. I want to be sure to get the best size/style pot I can since I probably will start with one only.

I shrimp from a PB in Whittier but it would be a 15 or 18 mile kick for the spots we go.  We target 325-400 feet of water and like it where a rubble slide meets a sandy or pebble bottom.

We use cat food to get them in the pot and salmon bellies to keep them from leaving.  With a pot puller we run three pots on one line and two on the other every year we try a pot without the canned cat food and one with on the same line 20 feet apart and the cat food pot always catches more.

Without the use of leadline was going to look at using a moderate size braid.
