Ok. Current weather shows a pocket of do-able water off Whiskey Gulch.

I may hit it to test some new king techniques but also give halibut a crack.

I won't decide till the 4am weather update.

If super bad there is a small chance I may grab my mini x and go. Surf cast and some surfing. It's nothing like catching a fish but it was a different type of adrenalin rush. Lol.

Huge minus tides. At low tide it will bring all sorts of decent water into casting range.

Ok. Still at home. But headed out in a bit. Going to take a look. 5 days in an office and Id rather be driving hoping for a shot than sitting at the house.

Calling for 5ft at whiskey gulch.  3ft at the spit. Maybe I'll hit a lake. Will be dragging along surfcasting gear too.  Could just be a drive. Lol.

Well EF these fish. Got tire fixed. Said what the heck. Down at the beach. Looks do-able. Going to wait a bit. Current is raging with big tide. Fish last two hours or so of light. Argh. This is nuts!

Ok, a 24 hour day yesterday with nothing to show for it.  Argh.  That's ok, it's just banking the hours until the next strike.

SO I set my alarm for 3am.  It rings.  I check weather.  Nope.  Crawl back into bed try to sleep a little more.  Check the cameras and such and the weather doesn't look THAT bad.  Calling for 3ft n Homer and 5ft in Cook Inlet but the camera says other wise.

I leave for WG hoping to hit the 3pm high tide.  I get a flat in Hope 60 miles down the road.  Come back to Anchorage, buy two new tires and i am back on the road.

I get to WG at 6pm but you can just see the current is raging.  High tide is at 9:30pm.  So I wait till 7pm launch.  I can stay above the parking lot so that was good.  Fish halibut about an hour.  Then trolled my 4wt for kings.  No love.

The forecast called for 5 foot wind waves.  Even the spot forecast called for 3-5ft.  But keep in mind if the wind is from the East or South at WG it shelters you a bit.  If its blowing steady from the East, you just don't have enough Fetch for it to generate any swells and those, not wind waves are the bane of launches and landing.

I did see mango Hobie on a black truck heading south.  Then I saw it coming back while I was trying to get back down.

I hear fishing is good.  Tad early for halibut in areas we can reach but its going to happen soon!

Does it mess up the fins when you beach it ?

That was as easy as it gets.  Last week, I was really moving!  Had to have been four or five times faster!  lol.

It doesn't seem to hurt the fins.  On small pebble or sand beach, I alway just leave them in.  I will say last week when I nose dived into the pebbles, the pebbles jammed into the drive and it took me a while of jiggling to get all the rocks out so I could straighten the fins and pull them out.  No problems this weekend with the same set.

Ok.  Here is an example.  All the stuff is as of 3pm Sunday.

Forecast at the location at WG

Wundermap: http://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/
Shows this:

20mph in Homer but from the east. So the spit blocks a lot of it.  Still no fun but do-able.  Here's a webcam shot of about where I fish. Courtesy of homerwebcams.com

Check buoy at entrance of K-Bay.  It was out of commission but just recently got installed.
http://www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page.php?station=46108

it shows 2.6 ft.  That's not bad.

I give it better than 50% chance that you will be able to get out at Whiskey Gulch.  But big wind may kick up so I would stay close to shore.  There is never a guarantee.  But I'd go.  Yesterday, I also packed my surf rod in case it was bad.  I also was prepared to try and surf the waves for a bit.  But fortunately or unfortunately, there wasn't much of a surf despite it calling for bad weather.

I also was eyeballing Kenai Lake as well as the upper and lower river.  Hmm....
