I am moving to Seward in May and I am wondering if I should bring my crab pot. I will only be there for the summer... are there any crabs worth targeting in Seward from a yak? I haven't looked into the regs yet but wanted to see if it is worth looking to and bringing my pot.

Thanks!!!!

No crabbing in Seward.  There is a golden king crab personal use fishery in Prince William Sound but you'll need a thousand or two, feet of line for that.  There is a tanner crab fishery out of Homer but that's been shut down for about 90% of the seasons in the past decade.

Depending on if you have access to outside of resurrection bay, you might find some spot shrimp though it s much better in Whittier halfway between Seward and Anchorage.  I don't think you can shrimp in the bay.  But the spot shrimp up here are pretty awesome!  Will you have access to a powerboat or just kayaks?  Seward is beautiful and though one of the busiest ports in summer and fall, i think it there are tons of potential fisheries yet to be explored.

Here's an old shrimping out of a kayak video out of Whittier. It is the only shrimping/crabbing accessible to most folks without specialized gear.

Those were some nice looking spot shrimp.
Amazing how much your gear has changed since 2011. Do you still use your Mini-X ?
Thanks for bringing back that video.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

Nope.  I still have it.  It was my river kayak but I figured out my Hobies worked a LOT better on the Kenai.  My kids use it on lakes.

Yah, I may have to go get a few shrimp.  I just have a buddy of mine that managed something on the order of 6,000 shrimp for over 200 pounds of tails.  But it's something fun to do!  and you need to get them yourself if you want to utilize the heads and frankly I think they are the best part!!!!!

Hey thanks for the response!  I'm on NWKA all the time but I'm still figuring out how it works and I didn't think anyone had responded to my post.

I will only have access to my kayak so I will leave my crabbing gear here in California. I am putting everything together for the summer and I am leaving next Friday. I will have two weeks through bc for the  drive so I expect to find some good fishing.

Thanks for the advice!
