My wife and I just bought a 2015 Hobie Oasis from Next Adventure. I spent the day getting the gear tracs setup. I want to use the same Lowrance Elite 4 I use on my Revo. For my Revo I use the puck method with the transducer and battery pack located in the front compartment. I just snake the wire out the hatch which has always worked for me.

However, I am going to need to drill a nickel sized hole and create some sort of removable water proof plug to move the transducer over to the Oasis. My current plan is to locate the transducer "foam puck" underneath the rear seat and store the battery just forward of the transducer for easy access. I would then snake the cable to the cable hole (which I have yet to drill) in the rear port pocket and run the cable up to the fishfinder mounted on a RAM ball on a gear trac.

Just wanted to see if anyone had alternative suggestions and ideas for a removable plug that needs to be fairly water tight.

Buy a Hobie Thru Hull Wiring Kit $17.99. You get two plugs and extra fittings for other cable sizes. http://www.amazon.com/Hobie-Thru-Hull-Wiring-Kit/dp/B00CJ8KY3E

Does it allow you to easily pull the plug out?

We have one that is a cap with 3 little screws that could be taken out each time without too much hassle.  6 bucks and uses a 1" hole.

It's fairly simple. The plug has a plastic wingnut that you'd have to unscrew. Siebler's suggestion might be easier, and it's cheaper.

I have a permanent cable in my yak that way the battery and the fishfinder just unplug fron each end. I use the two prong cable you would normally use on a trailer.

Yes but in order to do that I would have to buy a whole other transducer which I don't want to do. I want to be able to move the transducer between boats easily.

My approach was to make my whole set-up external. (I don't have a built-in transducer mount on my 2011 anyway.) I mounted a crossbar on my Oasis that I rigged up a transducer arm that hangs over the side. I then made up a rig that would use that arm on my boy's Revo, using the built-in rod holder holes. I mount the battery to my crate, and run the cables up to the display unit on the gunwale. I can show some pictures if you are interested.

+1 and use a little marine goop to seal it. Buy a 2 hole rubber stopper that is designed for a beaker.

You may want to mount the transducer in front of the mirage drive. When fishing bottom structure in a Hobie under pedal power, the forward mounted transducer works better and you don't get the cavitation from the mirage drive. If you mount the transducer under your seat the glide will sometimes take you off the structure by the time you drop.
