Quick report for early morning catch - My buddy joined the fun.  Between two of us we hooked 6 kings...lost 2, released 3 and kept 1.  All in 40 minutes or so. Sounds familiar? Like yesterday, there must be a massive school feeding in this area. 3 halibut, biggest one weighing in 22lb...based on Akrider's digi scale.  I think his scale needs calibration...feels more like 30# to me.

LOL digital-scale lie-buster strikes again!   I wish my bathroom scale read more like this one - nice fish, but we both lost at guess the weight.

For me as well, the early King bite was pretty darn good.  I had three kings in short order, lost one, shook one off at the boat, and kept a nice 16# fish as the action slowed a bit.  I was fortunate - was guessing 12 to 15# and managed to just get in at the 16# line.

Once the king action slowed a lot and the school moved on, so did I.   I shifted back north a bit, and deeper though not much, and switched rigs to deep drift/troll for halibut.  Pretty fast action again, though and I had two fish in the bucket and trolling back to the beach by 11:00 AM.  The larger fish was over 20#, and like MAK2014 felt and looked a fair bit bigger, especially trying to get it into my little net!  For whatever reason I had left the McGyver harpoon in the truck, so it was either wrestle with my Boga grip or shoe-horn the thing into the net with one third of it sticking out.

Weight mystery solved later when I realized the filet's came off a bit thinner than I had expected.   Need to fatten the butt's up a bit.

Ran into a gentleman with two pro-anglers, checking the water.  Joe snapped the pic below for me, we may see him yet on the forum.

Big ol' bust for me on Sunday. As is my habit, fished the last couple of hours of the incoming tide - 1:30 PM - back on beach by 5:00 PM. Had a couple of ok takedowns, but missed them all. Herrings I fished with weren't great - easy to pull them apart. Anyway, fed the Irish Lords $10 worth of herrings and headed home. Tide and weather permitting, I'll be out again next weekend.
Good things come to those that wade.

Nice haul AKRider!

Bzuefish.  Bummer you can't make the derby.  They are there in pods.  Perseverance will pay off!  Now is the time!!!  I will be out next weekend for sure.
