Pink thats great then the ships can see you better  ;D

Anyways well fine then i guess i will stick to waders and a dry top i didn't think u could get a top that cheap so that changes things.

if you're now living in seattle, take a saturday afternoon and go over to the seattle REI and become a member... i picked up my dry top there for way under $100 in their bargain bin.. also, check Spotsmans Warehouse, usually upstairs is where they have their paddle gear..

and DO not forget out sponsors here, especially Outdoorplay....great deals there too...

all comes down to, ya gotta look around ya, and carefully choose your gear.

I recommend the stocking foot waders. I once forgot my wade boots for a trip and went to Big 5 and bought cheap oversize hiking boots for wade boots. If you go that route, buy at least 2 sizes bigger than normal- and 3 may be better. It looks like a lot of guys are using Croc clogs for out on the yak.

yeah or better yet, is a set of el cheapo "water shoes" one to 2 sizes bigger than what you normally wear if you're doing stocking foot waders.. grip and protect better than those 3rd worldly thingies known as crocs..plus, they stay on your feet when you need them to!! wading or hiking boots are just "OK" when on the boat, but something with less mass like the smaller sandals , water shoes or <ahem> crocs are better. not only will they keep you from gettin your line tangled in your foot gear, but if you have big feet like i do, they'll fit better in the footwellls..

I use the cheap $5 watershoes over my stockingfoots (actually, neoprene sock feet) in the kayak.

Probably going to have to hit a fly shop or higher end fishing shop to find Dan Bailey's.  My local Sportsmans Warehouse just carries Hodgemans.  I've worn the Baileys on guided trips--they are nice, worth the extra money.

REIoutlet.com has a decent deal on an Extrasport semi-dry top (has tight latex gaskets on the wrist, but neoprene collar).  This is a pretty good set up for kayak fishing (same as the Kokatat dry suit mentioned above).  I've go a full dry top from the same company that I like a lot.

Sierra Trading Post has some screaming deals right now.  This is the top I have:

Check out Outdoor Emporium, south of the stadiums on 4th Ave. Probably the closest big store to your location. http://www.lostinseattle.com/LIS/sportinggoods/outdooremporium.html

You could also check out Joes Sports too.  They have a varying selection of waders and wetsuits depending on what store you go to.  Their wetsuit selection is primarily for PWC'ers but they do have farmer johns.

My wife and I came across a great deal on some 3 mil, O'neil wetsuits yesterday and it got me thinking about wearing one under my splash pants and jacket. There seems to be alot of debate about what to wear, and it got me wondering if a wetsuit designed for surfing would be any good in the Yak. I understand that there may be some loss of mobility due to the sleeves, but, compared to the old wetsuits that I wore diveing they look/feel great. I would be inclined to buy an NRS suit but there is not a dealer nearby and my wife at 4'9" is hard to get sized, so internet orders are out on this one. So.. are there any other drawbacks to using a surfing designed wetsuit, at least until I can get drysuits on down the road?

FWIW, I've worn wetsuits under splash tops/pants, with the splash top helping again the evaporation effects on the wetsuit.  Works good IMO.

I've also worn a wetsuit under waders and splash top.  Works good too, especially if you're paranoid about waders not providing solid protection.

I've also worn surfing wetsuits.  Wasn't too bad as they are made for arm movement.

Ah ... such was the evolution of my kayak fishing fashion.

Thanks PolePole for the quick info, I think I'll go with the O'neil for the time being, and as you pointed out "Evolve" a bit until I find what is right for me and my bank acct.

Make sure you try sitting down in the wetsuit. I tried it early on with my triathlon wettie, and it damn near choked me out.
