I looked a lot of thru hull kits and even though most of them were cheaper than the Hobie kit I went with them cause of the ease of install and their reputation...(glad I did)

Pretty cut and dry...

1. I chose a location that would allow me some adjustment of the fish finder in case I ever had to paddle my Propel for some reason.

2. Drilled two 1 inch holes and cleaned up the surfaces with a fine rounded file to help get a better seal

3. Routed all the wires inside the kayak after first sliding the rubber seal up to the adapter.

4. Slid the nylon nut up the wires and then coated with a very small amount of RTV sealant

5. Faced the outlets to the desired direction and HAND TIGHTENED the nylon nut.  (I capitalized HAND TIGHTEN because you do not want to use pliers or you WILL strip out the nut)  I almost stripped it by hand tightening it so be careful.

Pros:  Simple Install, plenty of extra parts, looks good, seals good

Cons: Needs a thicker nut, two rubber seals on top and bottom

Chris where did you get your thru-hulls? Got to do the same to mine. Also how did you mount the transducer?

When choosing a spot for a through-the-hull fitting, find the biggest flat spot you can.  Reach into the area on the inside of your kayak where the nut will be located with the nut in your hand, hold the nut against the area, and be sure that there is a big enough flat area for the nut.  Remember that the inside of the kayak may be shaped differently than the outside.  If the area where you're thinking of installing the through-the-hull fitting is curved, and the rubber gasket doesn't contact the hull firmly all of the way around its circumference, you won't get a good seal, and will need to glob some kind of sealant into the gap to keep the fitting waterproof.  Damhik.

Fergy I ordered them from Kayak Shed. I mounted my fish finder on a gear head on the supplied rail and made a bracket for the transducer. I'll get a better pic for you.
