Made the "vice run" down to Astoria today . Took my dog down cause he hadn't had a road trip for a while and mama's out of town and he likes going for a ride. That might have been a mistake ............
Coming down the hill out of Nasselle I'm always looking for the Colombia as soon as it becomes visible. Well ... what caught my eye today was the 6 rigs parked at the Knappton launch. Hmmmmmm
Coming around the corner where I could see more river I was shocked to see over 50 boats out on the water. So I pull over at Dismal Nitch and get out the bino's. Most boats were trolling so I have to guess they were salmon fishing. The majority were fishing the south side of the "Blind Slough" all the way down to the bridge. That's about 2-300 yards off the Washington side. There were no boats west of the bridge. Period...
Looks like some great tides early next week..... and I will be there. Without the dog.

Hi Mark.  Looks like there was big Chinook action out there that day - many fish caught due to an extension of the summer season there.  Story from NW Sportsman:  http://nwsportsmanmag.com/editors-blog/good-king-bite-astoria-bridge-ramsey-reports/

If you're heading out, here's a key tip from the article:
Quote
In his column for the August issue of Northwest Sportsman magazine, Ramsey and several guides he interviewed all felt that with this year’s warm waters, it would be a spinner bite, and today’s action certainly buoys that theory.

Good luck out there!

   Thanks Sam,

Yeah...I've been following the action on I-fish, NW Sportsman , and talking with Buzz Ramsey.
I will be there Wednesday morning. A good low tide around 8:00 am. Rods are rigged, battery charged, ready to roll.
Come on out if you get the chance.
