I just heard from one of my Dory buddies that a few kayakers have been getting washed out of their boats on the new sand bar at Pacific City.  He said someone needed to get rescued last Sunday and this was the second rescue he heard of.  His advice was not to submerged sandbar at low tide.

Yeah, it's been like that for the last month.  Best at low tide just to hit it all the way in the corner, right beside the toadstools there.  Mid-tide and fuller it's not an issue.  On smaller surf days it may be better just to land just south of the sand bar toward the brewery.  Most of the dory boats have not been doing this because the berm in that area is really steep for this time of year.

I thought it looked like a dry-pants and dry-top combination, NRS topside, couldn't see a brand on the drypants.  Noe exactly "waders"

I ran into the guy who needed rescue Monday morning as he came back to Cape Kiwanda looking for his kayak. Apparently he was rescued Sunday, by the Dory boat, but they couldn't save his kayak because it had taken on water and they couldn't lift it. The reason they couldn't lift the kayak was the guy had a car battery inside as well. The guy lost it all! The new kayak, electric motor, 12 volt car battery, keys, wallet and cell phone were in the kayak and all are MIA. I'm guessing it all most likely busted up on the rocks, including the guys car battery. :( The guys told me someone last saw the kayaks bow bobbin up and down near the Haystack rock Sunday evening around sunset. We looked for it all Monday, but saw nothing.
Don't be that guy!

We have came in when it's breaking hard and hugged the cape landing on the north side of the rocks closest to the cliff.

The post was linked on Oregon Coast Lifestyles facebook page, which is how I came across it.  98% of the people that follow that site are misinformed it would seem from the comments on the various articles, but its a good and active site for keeping up with the latest news and events.

In fact, a link to the ORC signup was also on that page today.

the rumor I got from one of the dory guys there, was that a rope, line, or some kind of leash got wrapped up in one of the mushroom rocks near the beach and hung the kayak up.  judging by those pictures, it looked pretty rough out there, would be a nasty spot to end up being anchored.

YEP.

I'm glad someone posted about this. It's pretty rough at low tide.
