Good afternoon all,
Just picked up a Jackson Cuda 12 a couple of weeks ago and have been fishing about 3 times a week around anchorage and resurrection bay.   I caught my first pacific cod on it 36 hours after I bought it.  Needless to say, i am hooked.  Looking to catch my first butt on a Kayak before i relocate to the lower 48 next year.
I joined the forum to help locate some others fishing from Kayaks up here, since its just me and my buddies don't have fishing yaks.  There is some big water up here and looking to buddy team for halibut and salmon.
In closing, glad to be here and tight lines for all.

Aaron

Hey Aaron and welcome. I couldn't help but notice the CH47 part of your user name and assuming you must be active duty, or prior service, working on aircraft. Specifically the Chinook. I was medically retired from the Army in 2005, when I was a 15R, working mostly on the Apache, but also the OH-58. I think you'll find you're in good company here on the forum.

Hey Aaron!  You've found the right place for info. The whole forum is great for general kayak angling info as it pertains to cold water fishing. The Alaska section is where a dozen or more of us regularly post reports.

If you haven't found it already, I have some location specific info up at AlaskaKayakFisher.com

Though the action has slowed there has been consistent halibut action off of Whiskey Gulch near Anchor PT. Seward is always a possibility for halibut but never as consistent as lower cook inlet.

I'd start at the Alaska section of these forums.

When do you relocate. Action is good through December here. Fish can be caught but slows way down Jan to Mar h. But by the end of April, the fishing picks up again.

Lots of great folks here. Welcome!!!

Let's fish!

Hey Aaron, if I'm not mistaken, I was your deckhand on a charter a few weeks ago in Seward.

I took your advice about a tandem and looked into it. I ordered a Hobie Oasis. I'm going to pick it up September 2nd in Washington on my way to San Diego. Have you been out again?

I'm get out about three times a week, after work etc... Hitting lakes catching stocked rainbows. Just rigged up a quick release anchoring system, and have picked up some butterfly jigs to target the bottom dwellers. Trying to hit the ocean this weekend. Not sure where though, maybe Whittier.

Ugh. Avoid Whittier though I've heard a few silvers are in. Basically cheaper and almost the same time wise to go out of Seward.

If you need some info for Seward I can hook you up. I do a major part of my kayak fishing out there. There's some great water taxis there that can take out pretty far. Sunny Cove is my favorite because I almost always get a mixed bag there. I will be there for the opening of the derby if you want to tag along. If you haven't got a drift sock yet you might want to. works great out there

Kayakfishslayer,  will look into the drift sock.  I'm a 50/50 for getting there opening day, might be able to get another hall pass. I will let you know if I'm able. Again thanks.
